Ellie Lights was always a little different. At ten years old, while the other girls in her class were planning sleepover parties and finally being allowed to wear makeup, Ellie was in her corner, writing stories, reading fantasy novels. She would sneak out of class and hide in closets, the bathroom, but her favorite place was behind the stage, in the old costume room. The costume room was up a ladder on the stage wall, and through a door that was generally locked, but Ellie had obtained the key through a process she would rather not share with the world. She spent a lot of her time there, she would light a little candle and lock the door, it was her quiet sanctuary. One day, during a science lesson in class that she found especially boring, she asked to go to the bathroom, and went to the costume closet. She lit her candle, and it wasn’t long before she fell asleep, and the candle caught fire to a jacket on the floor, and then to her shoe and by the time she woke up, it was too late to put it out or try to get help. She passed out, and when she came to, she was on a ship headed for the ever after.
